Overview — What is going to happen to that drug that is approved for use in humans when you give it to a dog, or a cat, or even an elephant? Pharmacy curricula do not typically include exposure to the principles of drug disposition in non-humans, so most pharmacy professionals are at a loss when a human-labeled drug does not do what it is expected in a pet. This presentation will explore comparative differences in anatomy and physiology of companion animals versus humans and how those differences impact successful pharmacotherapeutic outcomes.
