Lithium Ion Disc Batteries

When a lithium ion disc battery is ingested it can cause an electrical current flow within the gastrointestinal tract, leading to the death of tissues within the body. Ultimately, death can occur. This toxicity is seen in both dogs and cats.

Signs and symptoms of toxicity: Clinical signs and symptoms of toxicity include sores on the animal’s gums, teeth discoloration, increased saliva, refusal to eat or drink, abdominal pain, abnormally pale skin and/or gums, and a swollen abdomen.

Toxic consumption: There is no established threshold for toxicity. All incidents of exposure should be reported immediately.
