Practical Application of Acupuncture in Laboratory Animal Medicine

This knowledge-based, on-demand webinar provides pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, veterinarians, and veterinary technicians with an introduction to the practical application of acupuncture in laboratory animal medicine. The program explores acupuncture as a complementary therapy within veterinary and laboratory animal care, with a focus on pain management, animal welfare, and multimodal treatment approaches.

Participants will review the basic principles and mechanisms of action of acupuncture, including concepts from Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), such as Yin and Yang and meridian theory. The session discusses common clinical indications for acupuncture in laboratory animals and examines how acupuncture may be incorporated into multimodal analgesia protocols.

Through real-world case examples, the webinar highlights how acupuncture has been used to support pain control, mobility, and behavioral well-being in a laboratory animal setting. Attendees will also learn about acupoint selection, commonly used acupuncture techniques, and tools employed in clinical practice.

Safety considerations are addressed throughout the program, including basic precautions and considerations when animals undergo acupuncture treatment. The session also discusses how acupuncture may serve as an adjunctive option to conventional therapies to improve animal welfare outcomes.
