Overview —Medicating animals can be uniquely challenging due to anatomic and behavioral differences from humans, including fear-related aversion or aggression. This can lead to reduced compliance and poor patient outcomes as owners and animal handlers struggle to medicate pets. This presentation will discuss methods to reduce distress and fear when dosing animals. Methods discussed will include alterations to medications and dose forms, as well as behavioral interventions and resources to share with pharmacy colleagues and animal caretakers. This presentation will facilitate communication between veterinarians and pharmacy staff to improve outcomes for animal patients.
