Overview — Transportation anxiety is common in felines and can prevent owners from providing optimal care due to the stress and complications of simply getting to the veterinarian. Pregabalin, alprazolam, and trazodone, FDA approved for human use, are some of the current options prescribed to help with transportation anxiety. Recently, pregabalin has been FDA-approved for this indication exclusively for feline patients. The purpose of this knowledge-based activity is to review pregabalin primary literature and the pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and proper administration techniques to allow for optimal counseling and education to pet owners.
